"Learn to Move - Move to Learn"
Brain Gym Movements

The activities we use for warm up are based on simple movements to engage coordination of eyes, hands, ears and whole body to survive in the world. This coordination is necessary for the later acquisition of reading, writing and other cognitive skills. These brain gym movements are thought to activate the brain for optimal processing, storage and retrieval information “learn to move - move to learn”
(Brain Gym Movements).

Kiwi Ingenuity

In Fit Kidzs I also designed the equipment and added a bit of Kiwi ingenuity to the activities.

For javelin throwing we use bamboo sticks and the targets are the golden syrup tins. We use sock shot for shotputs. The kids fill up their socks with sand and we throw them. We do pole vault. I hold the pole and the children line up one at a time and jump onto the pole and I flick them over the high jump bar and the land on the big pole vault mats. They love it!!!

Fit Kidzs Workbooks

This year, 2009, I polished the after school program by writing a manual and designing a workbook for the kids to fill in after their activities.

These workbooks can go home. Includes colouring in pages, word find using fitness words ie, agility, strength etc.. nutritional tips, fitness profile to fill in to monitor their progress in the many activities we do at Fit Kidzs.

An Exercise Program for Kids Designed by Sue

'Fit Kidzs' targets 5-10 year olds for an hour and a half after school each week to develop all the fitness components based on running jumping and throwing.

I employ two other staff for this program and have 30 buzzing Fit Kidzs on the go! This program has a waiting list for the term in advance and has been a huge hit.
